Join me for a trip to Colon, Michigan on Halloween! This year is the 100th anniversary of the death of Harry Houdini. This well-known
magician died at 2.37 p.m. on Halloween 1926. Learn about the Houdini Séance and the purpose behind it. The Houdini Seance is
Magics way of honoring Houdini for his crusade against fraudulent spiritualists and mediums. After the loss of his mother, Houdini
attempted to contact her through various mediums of the era, only to find they were using some of the same methods to fool people
that he was using in his act. Disgusted that mediums would take advantage of people in their hour of grief, he began a crusade to
expose these fake mediums, and thus made many enemies with the spiritualist world of his era.
Let’s explore the world of Magic! This trip will include a graveyard tour, a visit to the museum, a magic show, the séance, and a chance
to learn about this community that brings magicians together to learn new skills and share their love of the art of magic. Lunch will be
included.
Colon is the former home and burial site of several famous magicians including, Harry Blackstone, Sr. (The Great Blackstone).
The United States Congress recognizes Colon as “The Magic Capital of the World”. It is the home of the Abbott Magic Company,
founded in 1934 by magicians Percy Abbott, an Australian and friend of Blackstone’s, and Recil Bordner, originally from Eaton,
Ohio. The company has a local store, showroom, and a factory where magicians’ supplies and new tricks are manufactured. Abbott
Magic is well known among professional stage acts.
Dress for the weather as the graveyard tour will be outdoors and include walking on uneven ground. Return time to Clio will be about
6:00 p.m.

March is a delightful time to visit Hawaii because the whales are having their babies and we can often see them
breeching from the shore. We will depart on Thursday, March 4, and fly to Hawaii. Arriving at the Sheraton Princess
Kaiulani we will be a block from Waikiki Beach. It will be early evening there and due to the time change, it will be a long
day for us. On Friday, we’ll relax – sleep in if you choose – and learn your way around the hotel and surrounding area.
Perhaps hanging out on Waikiki Beach will be enjoyable for you. On Saturday afternoon we will head to the ship terminal
and board Norwegian Cruise Line’s “Pride of America” for a week long cruise. The cruise will take us to the four major
islands where you will have an opportunity to purchase shore excursions of your choice on each island. The meals on the
cruise ship and many ship activities will be included for your enjoyment. Returning to Honolulu, we will stay for three
additional nights at the same hotel in Waikiki. Since you’ll already be rested and know your way around, you can really
enjoy some local activities. I will offer optional day trips to Pearl Harbor and a city tour as well as a day to the
Polynesian Cultural Center. These are places that I recommend everyone take time to see especially if it is your
first trip to Hawaii.

Lancaster – Jonah in 2027!
The Sight & Sound Theatre has announced that their production for 2027 in Lancaster will be the story of Jonah!
This is a return production and the amazing thing I recall when I saw it in the past was when the whale swam out

for this show. The past couple of years we have reserved 2 or 3 shows. I am just trying to determine how many tickets to
reserve. There are so many other trips next year, I don’t want to assume the same level of interest.
