Join me for the trip to the Hawaiian Islands in March of 2020. Easter is not until the 2nd week of April so it gives us plenty of time to get away from the winter weather and enjoy a couple weeks in the sun and still be back in time for the usual Easter activities. March is a delightful time to visit Hawaii because the whales are having their babies and we can often see them breeching from the shore. We will depart on Thursday, March 5th, and fly to Hawaii. Arriving at our hotel we will be a block from Waikiki Beach. It will be early evening there and due to the time change, it will be a long day for us. On Friday, we’ll relax – sleep in if you choose – and learn your way around the hotel and surrounding area. Perhaps hanging out on Waikiki Beach will be enjoyable for you. On Saturday afternoon we will head to the ship terminal and board the Norwegian Cruise Line’s “Pride of America” for a seven day cruise. The cruise will take us to the four major islands where you will have an opportunity to purchase shore excursions of your choice on each island. The meals on the cruise ship and many ship activities will be included for your enjoyment. Returning to Honolulu, we will stay for three additional nights at the same hotel in Waikiki. Since you’ll already be rested and know your way around, you can really enjoy some local activities. I will schedule day trips to Pearl Harbor and a city tour as well as a day to the Polynesian Cultural Center. These are places that I recommend everyone take time to see especially if it is your first trip to Hawaii. Our Detroit bound flight leaves in the evening and is an overnight flight. Aloha!

Iceland

Iceland is a Nordic island country in the North Atlantic, with a population of 348,580 and am area of 103,000 km2, making it the most sparsely populated country in Europe.  The Capital and the largest city is Reykjavik,  with Reykjavik and the surrounding areas in the southwest of the country being home to over two-thirds of the population.  Iceland is of a plateau characterized by sand and lava fields, mountains, and glaciers, and many glacial rivers flow to the sea through the lowlands.  Iceland is warmed by the Gulf Streams and has a temperate climate,  despite a high latitude just outside the Artic Circle.  Its high latitude and Marine influence keeps summers chilly,  with most of the archipelago having tundra climate.

Reykjavik’s endless summer days make it a fun place to visit between June and August.  but if you want to see the Northern Lights,  Your best bet is to go in the winter.  Bear in mind, however, that the otherworldly phenomenon (also known as the Aurora Borealis) is notoriously difficult to perfect.

I’ve had several people asking about Iceland.  I’ve done some preliminary checking to give you a better idea of the two types of trips that are offered by Collette.

#1 iceland’s magical Northern lights

The Winter months of February or March would be about $4320.00 per person double occupancy for a 7 day trip.  This would be to an opportunity to see the Northern Lights if the sky is clear and free of clouds.  It is not a guarantee.  Remember also that Iceland has about 7 or 8 hours of sunlight in the winter months.  Highlights include Reykjavik (the Capital City);  Northern Park;  Vik;  Gulfoss;   Geysir;  Seljalandfoss;  Skogar Folk Museum;  Skogafoss;  Jokulsarlon Glacial Lagoon;  Skaftafell National Park;  Lava Exhibition Centre and Blue Lagoon.

#2 Iceland Land of fire and ice

The Summer Months of June would be 5620.00 per person for double occupancy for a nine day trip.  This is also the land of the Midnight Sun and days would be long as the sun almost never sets.  This trip would include 7 breakfasts, 6 dinners and 7 nights lodging.  The first day and 9th day would be the travel days to and from Iceland,  This also includes transportation to and from the airport,  the air flight,  the insurance and many activities and tours while in Iceland. Highlights include Reykjavik (the Capitol City); Golden Circle; Snaefellsnes Peninsula;  Breidafjordur Bay;  Waterfall  Seljalandfoss;  Skogar Museum Vatnajokull National Park; and Lava Exhibition Centre.

Another consideration would be heavier clothes would be needed for trip #1 although even the summer months can be cool.  Please look over these two options… if you are interested in this trip, let me know your vote for Trip #1 or trip #2 or if you’d go either way.  I’d love to offer this trip but feel it is best to know what people prefer.  The cost between the two trips is actually only 17.50 more per day for Trip #1
